Today, we are thrilled to unveil “Turn the Tables”, a new campaign celebrating innovation and creativity in the restaurant community and highlighting unique stories from local restaurateurs. From changing business models and unstable supply chains to labor shortages and an increased focus on fair wages, the restaurant industry has faced unprecedented change.

The ad campaign, a first for Yelp since 2016, highlights the tenacity of three restaurateurs who have successfully found new ways to turn industry struggles into game-changing change despite the unpredictable waves of COVID-19.

In the first quarter of 2022, Yelp data revealed that business growth was rebounding, new business openings in the United States had surpassed pre-pandemic levels, and consumers were returning to the most popular types of businesses. hard hit by the pandemic, especially bars and restaurants. This growth indicates that we are all ready to meet the challenges of the past two years, turn the tide and embrace the future.

Glenn Ishii is a Japanese American chef based in Los Angeles who started cooking with his grandmother as a child, then opened a restaurant, JiST Cafe, to serve Little Tokyo. When the pandemic hit, he revived his grandmother’s classic recipe to comfort local seniors during a trying time and bring a beloved cultural dish to a community in need.

Ann Butler is a former cooking teacher who spent 12 years developing her own cooking school for children. She decided to open 21 Spoons at the start of the pandemic to preserve Richmond’s vibrant food culture and transform a pandemic vacancy into a community-focused restaurant.

Ketsuda Chaison is a Thai immigrant with a passion for Latin American fusion cuisine. She launched Mestizo just before the pandemic and turned her kitchen into a commendable pop-up kitchen to keep her staff employed.

At Yelp, we’ve also embraced our new campaign theme by launching dedicated teams and resources to build the next generation of restaurant technology. If you’re a restaurant owner looking to turn the tide with your own business, visit Yelp for Restaurants.
