Former Gannett CRO to lead commercial activities in advertising, consumer, events and partnerships for the iconic news brand

NEW YORK, October 13, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Dev Pragad, CEO of Newsweek, today announced the appointment of the media and advertising industry leader Kevin Gentzel as Global Chief Commercial and Growth Officer. In this new leadership team role, he will oversee the entire commercial side of the operation, including direct selling and programmatic advertising programs, consumer and B2B events, development of innovative digital marketing solutions and other key revenue sources. Gentzel most recently served as chief revenue officer at Gannett, where he led all advertising and marketing solutions revenue in North Americaincluding UNITED STATES TODAY, ReachLocal and over 260 local news properties – responsible for over $1 billion In income. His deep expertise in media ad sales also includes leadership roles at Yahoo, The Washington Post and Forbes Media.

During his tenure at Gannett, Gentzel and his team launched branded content studio GET Creative, created the “LOCALIQ” brand for digital marketing solutions, developed cutting-edge advertising products, including virtual reality, and headed the National UNITED STATES Today the advertising activity has six consecutive years of growth.

Previously as Yahoo’s Advertising Sales Manager for North America, Gentzel oversaw the operations of the sales organization, from developing new revenue streams and sales strategies to leading client meetings and activities at key industry events. Under his leadership, the team was responsible for $4 billion in advertising revenue.

During his previous role as CRO at The Washington Post, he was responsible for launching and building the TWP Brand Studio, as well as driving revenue for all products, including print, digital, events and the conferences. Gentzel led the sales and advertising services team when the company was acquired by Jeff Bezos.

Prior to The Washington Post, Gentzel was president and group editor at Forbes Media before taking on the role of CRO in 2010, where he led advertising product innovation, including AdVoice development, developed a marketing director and cultivated a world-class sales leadership team whose members are current innovators, leaders and C-level executives in the media, technology and advertising industries.
