KidGlov, a full-service boutique, advertising, branding and content marketing agency based in Lincoln and Omaha, Neb., recently welcomed Shari Veil, Dean and Professor, University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) College of Journalism and Mass Communication (CoJMC), at its Agency for Change podcast. The episode explored the college’s work shaping the next generation of communicators.
“Few careers receive as much criticism as journalism while playing such an important role in keeping us all informed. Journalism is an evolving field and it was fascinating to sit down with Shari Veil to learn more about her perspective on the future,” said Kelley Peterson, Vice President and Chief Creative Officer of KidGlov .
The first organized journalism course at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln was taught in 1894. Today, students can choose from a variety of career paths, including majors in journalism, advertising and public relations, broadcasting, media sports and communication. CoJMC’s mission is to encourage inquisitive and creative minds to thrive in the ever-changing media and communications professions. Their inclusive “do it from day one” experience is rooted in hard work, collaborative problem solving, and ethical truth-seeking to sustain democracy.
The Agency for Change episode with Veil explores the wide reach of CoJMC, how journalism has changed over the years, what Veil sees for the future of the industry, and the college’s hands-on experience lab, a program of learning that allows students to experience real-world experiences in partnership with community organizations, such as KidGlov.
“We have several programs where students work with professionals,” Veil said. “If a student doesn’t really know what they want to do, this is a place to come and find the right person. They can see what it’s like to work in the industry and speak with professionals with real-world experience.
